Seasons change as more pass by
shifting seamlessly
a Sine bouncing between extremes
they paint their phases in the sky
time steams on, the years roll by
Deep down amidst those creaking gears
the days click and tick more fluidly
shifting over hills, drifting
swiftly surging, steadily
we grind
My rides each day are vigorous
I’m getting into this
This California shit is rigorous
the gears that grind the years by
haven’t but begun to turn
but I’ve learned
if you don’t mind the details
you’re bound to get burned
I can see us teeming, wide awake but dreaming
moving quickly place to place
hoping we have what it takes
to make it
we fake it, maybe break on through
maybe falter, stumble, tumble
it’s dumbfounding
how many thousands
can course through this hive
surviving, striving
even as loose ends unravel
the dance weaves on
each of us plays many parts
immersed every day in this story
it’s art
My life is a comedy,
remember, it’s Saturday
suddenly the fog lifts
and clears away
sunlight so bright I say
My God! Apollo praise
this place
Murky in fog, the sea’s emission
it’s our permission
to live in the mouth of California
where her gaping maw
opens up and all
the world converges
Creation
ordered, racked out
across streets and avenues
over lines and wires and waves
apparatus
carrying our minds extended
bodies, too, and we depend
on hundreds, thousands every day
to carry us, deliver our intentions
to their destination
This reliance is exhausting
its grating, its exhilarating
flung out on a far trapeze
assembling castles in the air
leaping, going Further, daring
Gossamer timelines radiate
down each another story pending
some get written, some are ending
even as I glance away
course away
off and spinning on my way
In these cycles
overlapping, interlacing
always moving
I’m strung out, pacing, shifting
accelerating, drifting
Aiming at stability
but allergic to tranquility
A placid, crisp community
is not the world I seek, not me
it’s a little more gritty
in this city
though not as shitty
as some I’ve seen
But it’s the grit that grinds
your teeth
and sets your jaw
and makes you brace
and face the wind
blasting down the avenues
Pacific Ocean in full view
she howls because she’s big and blue
and since I can, I howl too
